Eid Al-Adha

Eid Al-Adha is the Islamic festival that marks the culmination of the annual pilgrimage to Mecca and commemorating the story of Prophet Ibrahim’s (Abraham’s) willingness to sacrifice his son when Allah (SWT) commanded him to. When Ibrahim showed that he would obey, Allah provided a sheep for Ibrahim to sacrifice instead. For this reason, Eid Al-Adha is also known as the Festival of Sacrifice and traditionally involves sacrificing a sheep or goat.  With part of meat being consumed by the family which offers the animal, while the rest of the meat is distributed to the poor and the needy.

Eid al-Adha falls on the 10th day of Dhul Hijjah, the 12th and last month of the Islamic lunar calendar.
